Sunshine Coast Regional Council powering down

The Sunshine Coast Regional Council (SCRC) in Queensland are demonstrating their extra support as a supportive council for Earth Hour 2009, by extending their one hour Earth Hour participation into a 4 week campaign called "Power Down". Aiming to improve their last year's result of a 10% reduction, SCRC have partnered with Energex to "power down" all energy usage across the month of March.

SCRC, led by Mayor Bob Abbot, has recently amalgamated into one strong council and are striving to take leadership as Australia's most sustainable region. The newly formed CEO's office is one with a difference; a sustainability division which underpins each and every of council's operations on the Sunshine Coast region.

SCRC's "Power Down" monthly campaign, coupled with their strong support of Earth Hour , is an example of their stewardship to drive the region in adopting more sustainable practices within the household and playing a stonger leadership role in global action toward climate change mitigation. Their 'top energy eliminating tips' can be viewed on their council website at sunshinecoast.qld.gov.au
